Pre-Dive Set Up

Step 1a

Remove the Webbing Deployment System WDS™ and the buoy from the carry pouch and fully unroll the buoy. Loosen the Cord Stopper on the WDS™  allowing all the Webbing to fall free. Ensure that the Webbing is free of any entanglement.

Step 2a

Place the Stainless Steel Ring over your thumb, and loop the Elastic Cord over your wrist.

Step 3a

Using your free hand feed loops of Webbing into the palm of your other hand (loops should only be slightly larger than your fist), grab the loops firmly until you have reached the end of the WDS™  with the Snap Hook. Loops should be stacked on top of each other as flat as possible.

Never roll or wrap the webbing around your hand or itself.

Step 4a

Pull the Elastic Cord over the bunched Webbing and pull down the Cord Stopper to hold the Webbing together. Your WDS™  is now ready for use. By pulling on the Snap Hook, the WDS™  will unravel smoothly and easily. Practice this several times before you dive

Roll up the buoy from the sealed end. Place the WDS™  just above the open end and wrap the remaining part of the buoy around it and stow in carry pouch.

Deployment

Step 1b

Maintain neutral buoyancy before attempting any deployment.

Place the Steel Ring of the WDS™  over your thumb on your left hand. Fully unroll the buoy and hold the opening in your left hand.

The excess Webbing should be draped over your left arm away from your body and equipment to reduce the possibility of entanglement. Take extra care if wearing wrist mounted instruments.

Step 2b

With your right hand position your alternate air source at the opening of the buoy and purge briefly into the opening to bring the buoy into an upright position. Continue to put air into the buoy, releasing it when it becomes buoyant.

Ensure that the Webbing Loop at the bottom of the buoy is clear of your alternate air source at all times.

Step 3b

At this stage you should be holding on to the Ring with only your thumb. If there is any problem with the deployment and the Webbing does not unravel smoothly, immediately release the WDS™  and the buoy by allowing it to slide off your thumb.

After completion of your Safety Stop gather the webbing up as you slowly ascend, in the same manner described in the Pre-Dive Set Up.

Step 4b

Once on the surface your WDS™  should be secured with the Elastic Cord. Fully inflate the buoy to achieve maximum visibility. Pull down on the Webbing Loop at the end of the buoy to bring it into an upright position. Maintain this until you are reunited with your dive vessel.

Surface Safely - Always be visible

Stowage and Care
  • After each day of diving rinse your buoy and Webbing Deployment System WDS™ with fresh water and leave it to dry before storage. Pay particular attention to the Snap Hook while rinsing.
  • Operate the mechanism several times during rinsing to prevent malfunction.
  • Occasionally use a small amount of silicon grease on the Snap Hook to ensure ease of operation.
  • Do not allow your Surface Marker buoy or WDS™  to come into contact with any petroleum based products, aerosols or chemical solvents.
  • Do not leave your Surface Marker buoy or WDS™  exposed to excessive sunlight or extreme temperatures.
  • Pre-Dive Set Up - check your Surface Marker buoy and WDS™ before every dive as you should with all your dive equipment.
