Size matters – the bigger and brighter the better in any situation.
Plastic / PVC safety sausages are not an option; they can burst at the most critical times, they stick together if not used regularly, they are very easily destroyed by UV exposure.
Yellow / Orange combinations have been tested to be the most visible in the best and worst conditions.
In fair weather costal diving with a lot of boat traffic an easy to deploy Surface Marker WDS buoys is probably your best option.
In more demanding weather conditions a Self Sealing Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) is the best option such the Tek Buoy.
In more remote areas where there is less boat traffic the bigger the buoy the better.
